  1. Hey guys, New here.

I just recently starting filming youtube howto videos on my new Canon 60d DSLR camera. I love it.

I have hired a video editor but I'm facing a big problem. My videos will result in about 5 minutes of youtube footage. However each project is about 25 minutes in length split up in about 8 files on average.

Some files are 6 minutes long and I only need to send the last 30 seconds to my video editor (who's download speed is not very fast).

I need to send him raw footage. But my question is, is there a program that can split my .Mov files without losing anything or compressing them?

I have looked at both wondershare and aimersoft, and both do not have that ability and insist on compressing the files in some way.

Does anyone know a program that I can split and keep the 'rawness' of my video files?

Thanks so much for any help!

  2. quicktime pro is probably the "best" but not free.

You should be able to do it with mpegstreamclip + quicktime alternative

ffmpeg can do it as well, but it's commandline usage

Yes I've done this many times with MpegStreamClip. Make sure to make cuts on key-frames (aka I-frames) and all will be well.
Got my retirement plans all set. Looks like I only have to work another 5 years after I die........

I'm curious about this because, in truth, there is no "RAW" codec for Quicktime. Uncompressed, yes; RAW, no. True RAW files use things like CinemaDNG or OpenEXR (pic sequences or encapsulated in MXF, usually), or a similar manufacturer-proprietary format.

How about you post a MediaInfo detailed text readout of one?

I used to be a proponent of MpegStreamClip, but because of numerous bothersome & un-fixed bugs, I can no longer recommend it. ffmpeg is good & fast & free, but it doesn't put out truly QT-compliant MOV files. I'd go with QTPro itself.

  5. He probably doesn't mean true "raw" , just the native h.264/mov camera files

People shooting raw probably wouldn't be asking these types of questions

  7. Geez thank you all for responding to quickly, and I DO apologize for being such a newbie here. I have learned so much from stalking these forums and Youtube I CANNOT thank this community enough.

Here is the MediaInfo text readout as a SS:

I understand it is not real "raw" footage coming from a DSLR I just meant raw to the recording on this device, sorry I sounded ignorant to what raw footage is.

Thank you all for the tips on what file services can come close to keeping my footage untouched and just "split", I think I am going to give quicktime pro a shot. I think it will be well worth it as I can strip away 80% of the file size before I give it to my editor.

Can't thank you all enough and I will check back to learn more about how to achieve this.
